Dr. Frank Lawrence, MD
Orthopedic Surgeon | Medical Humanitarian | Global Health Advocate
About Me
Greetings, I am Dr. Frank Lawrence, an experienced orthopedic surgeon with a rich history of providing quality medical care across the globe. Born in Milan, Italy, on August 20, 1958, I have dedicated my career to improving the lives of individuals through advanced surgical techniques, compassionate care, and a commitment to the betterment of global health.
Currently, I am based in Syria where I am working with the United Nations to assist in the provision of medical care to those in need. Prior to this, I served in Accra, Ghana, where I helped address pressing healthcare challenges within the region, particularly in the area of orthopedic trauma and surgery.
With a diverse background spanning across continents, I have had the privilege of working with a variety of patients and colleagues, which has broadened my understanding of healthcare systems and the unique challenges faced by communities around the world. I am always driven by my passion for both medicine and humanitarian work.
Professional Journey
I graduated with a degree in Medicine from a prominent university in Italy, and after completing my residency in Orthopedic Surgery, I have spent several decades in practice. My areas of expertise include:
Orthopedic Surgery: Specializing in joint replacements, fracture care, sports injuries, and complex musculoskeletal conditions.
Trauma Surgery: Skilled in emergency response surgery, particularly for accident victims and those with severe orthopedic trauma.
Reconstructive Surgery: Offering innovative solutions for individuals with deformities or long-term disability.
Over the years, I have honed my skills in a variety of clinical settings, from high-end medical centers to remote, resource-limited environments. My extensive experience has also enabled me to work with international organizations like the United Nations, where I focus on providing medical aid in crisis zones.
Global Impact
Syria (Present): Currently, I am serving as a part of the United Nations health initiatives. My work here focuses on improving the orthopedic care provided to displaced populations and refugees affected by conflict.
Accra, Ghana (Previous): In Ghana, I worked on medical missions, providing life-saving orthopedic care and participating in training local healthcare professionals to handle musculoskeletal injuries more effectively.
These experiences have deepened my understanding of the global healthcare landscape and ignited my dedication to improving access to quality healthcare for vulnerable populations.
Why I Do What I Do
Being able to make a tangible difference in people’s lives is my primary motivation. Whether I am treating a patient in a major hospital or performing surgery in a war-torn region, my goal is always the same: to restore function and improve the quality of life. Every patient, regardless of where they come from, deserves the best care possible. My work with the United Nations reflects this, as I help bridge the gap in healthcare services and bring essential medical expertise to areas in need.
Current Location
Syria (Currently working with the United Nations)
Although I am based in Topeka, Kansas, USA, I am currently in Syria, where I am working with the United Nations to provide orthopedic care to those affected by the ongoing crisis. My role here involves delivering vital healthcare to displaced populations and working with local medical teams to improve orthopedic treatment and emergency care in the region.
